The Ducati Story - l'autorevole storia del marchio di Ian Falloon - racconta le tappe del travagliato cammino della Ducati verso la gloria, e descrive ogni modello, dal Cucciolo 48cc fino al 1996.
Inizialmente sotto il controllo dello Stato, la Ducati ha attraversato decenni di alti e bassi, caratterizzati da decisioni manageriali discutibili. Tenuta insieme dal grande ingegnere Fabio Taglioni, il padre del sistema desmodromico, la Ducati ha prodotto alcune delle più belle moto degli anni Cinquanta, Sessanta e Settanta: la Marianna, la desmo 125 single, la Mach 1, la 750 e la Pantah.
Taglioni ha anche incoraggiato il ritorno della Ducati alle corse, e la vittoria nella 200 miglia di Imola del 1972 è stato il punto di svolta. Nel 1978 il già 9 volte campione del mondo Mike Hailwood porta alla Ducati il primo titolo mondiale della Formula TT, trionfando al Tourist Trophy dell’Isola di Man su una 900 SS nella classe F1.
Era esattamente il 2 giugno 1978, e da quella cavalcata trionfale di "Mike the bike" al TT il bicilindrico Ducati diventa mito.
Cagiva acquistò la Ducati nel 1985, portando un nuovo ingegnere, Massimo Bordi, e nuovi progetti, il più famoso dei quali fu il Desmoquattro. In varie versioni, questo motore ha dominato il Campionato Mondiale Superbike negli anni '90, in particolare con Carl Fogarty.
Tra i modelli di riferimento, e di maggior successo, la 916 e il Monster. Con la vendita di Ducati al Texas Pacific Group nel 1996, l'azienda ha continuato a crescere...
